Officials consider raising bus fare in Sioux Falls

Dec 04, 2012 -- 12:53pm

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Bus fare might be going up in South Dakota's largest city, for the first time in nearly two decades.

Fixed-route bus rides in Sioux Falls cost $1 and paratransit rides $2. That hasn't changed since 1995, and Transportation Planner Sam Trebilcock says it's time to consider an increase.

The Argus Leader newspaper reports (http://argusne.ws/TGh6Of) that a fare study will be done next month and will be considered by the Public Transit Advisory Board. Trebilcock also plans to schedule public meetings on the issue.

The City Council would have to approve any rate changes. Trebilcock says a recommended rate increase hasn't been determined.
