RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A Sturgis man arrested outside Rushmore Plaza Civic Center during a hockey game is suing Rapid City, two city police officers and one highway patrol trooper, claiming they violated his Constitutional rights.

The Rapid City Journal reports (http://bit.ly/WGHlrw) that 54-year-old Randall Ehlers seeks more than $100,000 in compensatory damages plus unspecified punitive damages.

Ehlers says he was at a Rapid City Rush game in December 2010 when he approached an officer who was taking his son into custody. He claims that one officer grabbed him and another officer helped bring him to the ground before a Taser was discharged in his lower back.

City Attorney Joel Landeen says the officers were just trying to control an escalating situation and the city plans to vigorously defend its officers.
