SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) - Although official celebrations to mark the 125th birthday of the city of Spearfish aren't scheduled until September, some residents are already getting into the celebratory spirit by making art.
KEVN reports (http://bit.ly/XzIrlZ) that the Spearfish Arts Center is hosting free community art projects every third Tuesday of the month.
Executive Director Sian Young says art is a major part of building communities. She says it was important to the people that established Spearfish that art was a central part of their community. She adds that art has continued to grow and thrive.
Residents recently had the opportunity to make homemade Spearfish postcards, which will be displayed at local businesses throughout the year.
